Nobody should have to leave their community to feel safe and supported.

LGBTQ2S+ people across Alberta should not feel isolated, unsupported, and afraid of being themselves. From humble beginnings as a youth group in Strathcona County, we are now a nonprofit that spans the province. Today altView works with youth, families, and service providers in smaller cities and rural communities, to provide supports where few may exist.

Our Vision

Queer and trans people, and those who have relationships with them, live without fear in a society where they are included, recognized, and celebrated.

Our Mission

To build diverse pro-queer and pro-trans communities in Alberta through advocacy, education, empowerment, collaboration, and the arts.

What We Do

At altView we help kids be themselves and give parents the knowledge and tools to understand their child’s experiences, and stand up for them when their identity is challenged or met with hate. We are a safe place online and offline to find useful resources that support mental health and financial needs for young LGBTQ people.

We achieve this through a combination of drop-in services and programming, GSA supports, and community presentations.

Testimonials

“My husband and I cannot thank you enough for your support. When [our child] told us they were a girl we didn’t know what to do and it felt like we were doing everything wrong. You helped us understand what we didn’t know and helped us realize how much we were already doing right. It was such a relief and your list of resources were a big help. [Our child] has been seeing specialists at The Wellness Centre and they’re happier than they have been in a long time.”

“I cannot thank you enough for the supply donations and button maker/beading loan you gave us for our pride festival. We were on the way back from the mall with juice and whatnot when you dropped in with them but the kids absolutely had a blast. They made lots of buttons and bracelets and our gym teacher made a necklace! Good stuff all round. AltView has always been great to us at [our school]. I really appreciate what you did for us this year and in the past. For some reason we don’t have a budget for GSA/pride of any kind so you made our pride happen!”
GSA Teacher

“The presenter made me feel safe to ask questions even though I didn’t know how to word things right. I didn’t realize how much I didn’t know about LGBTQ and I learned a lot. Thank you.”
