Status of Queer Conference 2012

The altView Foundation for Gender Variant and Sexual Minorities is pleased to announce that on April 28th, we will be hosting our first Conference, called the Status of Queer, 2012. It will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton 7230 Argyll Road, Edmonton. The objective of this conference is educate all in attendance (be they part of the general public, or organizations serving the public) about where the sexual minority and gender variant community stands right now and where we hope and need to go. For the not-for-profits in attendance, we will be working on ways to share information and resources while developing a greater understanding and sense of community among queer and queer supporting organization in Western Canada.

The focus of our conference is “Moving Forward”. Now that many of the legal battles for rights have been won, our community has the daunting task of determining what we are fighting for.

Offerings at our conference include:

- 6 Panels covering various issues affecting the queer community.

- A keynote speaker, who will ask, "what are we fighting for?"

- A workshopping session on community building between LGBT organizations with the goal of creating an inter-agency network.

- A reception following the conference.
