The altView Foundation was honored to receive a letter from the County Clothesline Foundation of Sherwood Park stating that they had chosen to support altView and provide much needed funding for a education presentation project. Our esteemed President, Bryan Mortensen, will be receiving the cheque at an event on November 9th. Please join us in the celebration of our first grant application success, come out to an altView Youth Group meeting or a thought OUT all ages meeting and celebrate our foundation success.
This grant project's purpose:
This specific project is to prepare and present our subject and goals to the local school board and to individual classrooms upon request from teachers and other staff to raise the awareness of local LGBTQ community members and ensure that the ‘un-self-identified LGBT persons in the public know that they are not alone and that there is a safe place to come hang out and be who they are and not who they think society should make them look like. Just knowing that you are not alone and that there is someone out there who will listen can make all the difference. We also promote acceptance and not just a tolerance for LGBTQ persons living in and around Strathcona County.
What altView hopes to accomplish is a more open and accepting environment for LGBT students and staff in Strathcona County and Elk Island Public Schools. We hope in the future to bring these ‘to be developed’ presentations to other schools and local organizations but have determined that EIPS in Strathcona County was the first place to start the conversation of acceptance.
The altView Presents: School Series will include Powerpoint presentations, pamphlets and bookmarks, posters and other advertising opportunities to help promote the acceptance of LGBT persons and provide information to the audience about the realities of the LGBTQ community.
The altView Foundation, changing perceptions, one should not have to leave home to feel safe. Supporting the LGBTQ population of Strathcona County since 2008.
